Final Article...

<How was ARW Autumn for you?>

     To say the truth, it was not so easy for me. 

It was difficult to manage my time to do my homework and to do other things such as preparations for the school festival. 

However, I felt that I could improve my skills to read and write in English.

<What were your impressions and what were the most valuable things you leaned?>

     As I wrote in the former paragraph, I think I could improve my English skills, but other than that, I felt satisfied with the theme, study of race. 

We, human, like to categorize ourselves into groups, but from these categories, discrimination occurs. 

To prevent these discrimination, we have to try to understand each other.

Isn't it connected to the theme of Spring term? 

I thought very interesting!

a) How should “race” be defined? Do humans really have “races” (sub-species)?

What is Diamond’s view?

Jared Diamond

    The author, Jared Diamond, is a professor of University of California, Los Angels, whose professions are Geography and Physiology.  As it is written in the title of the article, "Race Without Color," he claims that the human races should not be classified by their appearances.

      According to Diamond, "race" should be defined as "subspecies," or classified geographically. However, human race is much more complex than other animals' because it is deeply related to cultural and social situation such as politics and socioeconomic.

     

b) Is his argument persuasive? What’s your reaction?

     I generally agree with his claim, but his argument is not so persuasive because there are not so much sources for his opinion. To compare with other two authors, Gould and Shreeve, it is evident. If he gave reliable sources, it can be much better.
